Setting Up Your Freelance Success Web Page

If you don't have a website of your own, you can set up a simple web page here on FreelanceSuccess.Com. To use this feature, you will need your Freelance Success login and password. If you can't recall your log-in and password or you're having trouble making it work properly, please e-mail Editor@FreelanceSuccess.com.

How to Build Your Web Page
Once you have your login and password, go to http://freelancesuccess.com/homepages/addedit.php. Before entering any data into the text fields, enter your login and password. If you've entered it correctly, you will get a page with blank text fields so that you can begin entering your web page data.

There are five sections: COLOR SCHEME, PICTURE, HIGHLIGHTS, RESUME and CLIPS. You have a choice of three different color schemes: red/gray, blue/gray, and blue/yellow. Red/gray is the default. To choose a different color scheme, click the radio button and then the 'Submit' button.

To include a photo on your web page, click on the 'Browse' button and then use the dialogue box to select the image file from your hard disk. Click the 'Submit' button to upload the photo. To delete the photo, simply click the 'Delete this picture' button.

In the HIGHLIGHTS section you can highlight your talents and describe the kinds of work you're looking for. Use the RESUME section to list relevant work experience and education. At this point, CLIPS must be links to a story already on the web.

To enter an item, enter the text in the first box, and click on the "Submit" button. This will enter the item, and you should now see the item you just entered. You can change that item by editing the text, clicking the "Change item" radio button, and clicking the "Submit" button for that item. To delete the item, completely, click the "Delete item" radio button, and the "Submit" button.

The box just to the right of the text box tells you the order in which the items will appear. To change the order, simply change this number, ensure that the "Change item" radio button is selected, and then click the "Submit" button for that item.

A Word About Formatting the Text of Your Web Page Items
While you could create this web page without using any additional html coding, adding a few simple codes will make your page much more attractive. To do this, you don't have to be an html genius. Here's all you need to know to format the text in your items:

  • TO PUT TEXT IN BOLD: Place the <b> tag in front of the text and </b> after the text.
  • TO PUT TEXT IN ITALIC: Place <i> in front of the text and </i> after the text.
  • TO CREATE A LINK: Place <a href="(url goes here)">in front of the text you want clickable and the tag </a> after the text. For example, if you wanted to create a link to freelancesuccess.com with the words Freelance Success clickable, the line would look something like this:

    This is a link to <a href="http://freelancesuccess.com/">Freelance Success</a>.

Picture Yourself on Your Web Page
You can also include a picture of yourself on your web page. It must be in digital form on your hard drive. To upload a digital picture from your hard drive, click the "Browse" button and then select the file. Then, click the "Submit" button to upload it to your web page. If the upload succeeded, the picture will be displayed. To delete the picture, simply click the "Delete this picture" button.

There are some limitations on how big the picture can be. It cannot be wider or taller than 300 pixels, and the file size must be less than 100 kilobytes.

WARNING: Do not use filenames with spaces in them. They will not display properly. For example, instead of "my picture.jpg" use "mypicture.jpg".

Select a Color Scheme
You can select one of three color shemes--red/gray, blue/gray, and blue/yellow--where the first color is the color of the bar at the left of the page and the second is the background color. To select one, simply select the appropriate radio button and click 'Submit.'

View the Finished Product
Once you've entered all your data, you can view your web page by pointing your web browser to http://freelancesuccess.com/homepages/homepage.php?id=xxx, where xxx is your id number. You'll find that number on the add/edit page just to the right of your name. My id, for example is 2, making my web page URL http://freelancesuccess.com/homepages/homepage.php?id=2.

You use that URL to link to your web page. We can also set up a simpler URL for you to use. For example, you can also access my web page by going to the URL http://freelancesuccess.com/danromanchik. If you would like me to set up this kind of URL for you, e-mail me with your id number and the name you want the URL to have.

A Domain of Your Own
You can also register your own domain name and point that domain name to your page on FreelanceSuccess. Freelance Success can't register or host a domain name, but you can purchase one for as little as $12/year from a site like DirtCheapDomain.com and tell DirtCheap to point the domain name you buy toward your FLX writer web page address. That means, you can use your domain name in email or on stationery. When someone clicks on it or types it in, the user will be automatically redirected to your FLX address.

That's about all you need to know. If you have any questions, send me an e-mail.
